Preserving Ste. Genevieve

Ste. Genevieve is home to the best collection French Colonial architectural treasures including three of the five existing poteaux en terre (posts on the earth or in the ground) buildings remaining in the United States as well as many poteaux sur solle (posts on sill or rock foundation) structures. In addition to its French architecture, Ste. Genevieve has some of the best preserved examples of early 19th century American and German vernacular structures displaying the varied influence of the massive migration into the area before and after the Louisiana Purchase.

The Foundation for Restoration of Ste. Genevieve is one of Ste. Genevieve's local organizations actively supporting the preservation and restoration of significant structures in the National Historic Landmark District. Their mission is to recognize and help preserve the historic and cultural importance of the town's buildings.
